Short Answer
Columns and beams are captured directly from your IFC model: during import, vyzn recognizes the IFC classes IfcColumn and IfcBeam (including the StandardCase variants) and automatically assigns them to the component types Column and Beam. Their reference quantity for the life cycle assessment is the length in meters (m).
Why It Matters
Unlike planar components, which are calculated based on area (m2), vyzn uses the length in meters (m) as the default reference quantity for columns and beams. In the eBKP-H cost structure, columns are listed under C03 Column construction (C03.01 External column, C03.02 Internal column), also in meters. Clean capture therefore ensures that the assignment and the quantities (linear meters) match your expectations.
How It Works in vyzn
- During IFC import, vyzn recognizes the IFC classes IfcColumn and IfcBeam (including the StandardCase variants) and automatically assigns them to the component types Column and Beam.
- These components feed into the automatic grouping according to SIA 2032 (Annex A.2.2): columns go into the Column group, beams into the Beam group.
- For new versions, a suitable default build-up from the catalog is pre-assigned automatically – in the solid construction preset, for example, a concrete column or a concrete beam. You can adjust this build-up at any time.
- The prerequisite is that the elements in the model are cleanly classified as IfcColumn or IfcBeam.
Practical Example
You import a model with the solid construction preset: a column classified as IfcColumn is automatically assigned to the Column group and receives the default build-up concrete column; a beam classified as IfcBeam ends up in the Beam group with the concrete beam build-up. Both are calculated with the length in meters as the reference quantity, and the columns appear under C03 Column construction in the eBKP-H structure.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should you do if elements in the model are not classified as IfcColumn or IfcBeam (e.g. generic proxies)?
You can correct the group assignment manually afterwards: assign the element to the appropriate group in the version mapping. The associated catalog build-up is switched over automatically at the same time.
Can the pre-assigned default build-up be changed?
Yes – the build-up pre-assigned from the catalog can be adjusted at any time.
