Which data sources does vyzn use, and how often are they updated?

Last updated July 2, 2026

Short Answer

vyzn combines several verified data sources – the origin of every entry is transparently labelled in the catalogue.

How It Works in vyzn

  • KBOB reference materials: the official Swiss KBOB LCA data for construction (published by KBOB, ecobau and IPB, methodologically based on ecoinvent) – available in multiple versions. Older datasets are retained so existing projects do not change; for new projects we recommend the latest version.
  • Ökobaudat: the German LCA database.
  • materialsdb: manufacturer-specific material data (including SWISSPOR, ISOVER, FLUMROC, PAVATEX, FOAMGLAS, KABE).
  • Generic vyzn materials: a set of generic materials and build-ups researched and maintained by us for a quick start.

These sources provide the values for greenhouse gas emissions, embodied energy and UBP for materials, building services and resources.

Updates

We make new releases of the source datasets (e.g. a new KBOB version) available as they are published – existing project data remains unchanged.

Your Own Data

Our support team imports your existing material and component datasets for you as a whole – just contact us with your export. Outlook: EPDs will soon be imported automatically via a pipeline on the website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import my own materials or components?

Yes – our support team imports your datasets as a whole so you do not have to create anything manually.

Can I use EPDs?

You can enter project-specific values manually today; an automatic EPD import via a pipeline is in the works.

How do I know what a catalogue entry is based on?

The origin (KBOB, Ökobaudat, materialsdb, generic) is labelled per entry in the catalogue.

Update (version 1.8.5)

Version 1.8.5 also corrected some master data in the system catalog – including adding missing values and cleaning up density figures and LCA metadata for components; existing project states are unaffected.
