Short Answer
You define the cross-section and percentage values in the catalogue directly on the component. Open the component, switch to edit mode and click «Bauteilaufbau definieren» (define component build-up) in the «Querschnitt» (cross-section) card. The build-up is a matrix: rows are layers, columns are sections, and in each cell you link a material.
When to Use This
Whenever you define a component's build-up in the catalogue – for example when an insulation layer contains an additional section for timber studs. The percentage values directly scale the material shares in the life cycle assessment (UBP, greenhouse gas emissions, embodied energy) and are weighted into the U-value calculation – a correct build-up is therefore the basis for reliable results.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the component in the catalogue, switch to edit mode and click «Bauteilaufbau definieren» in the «Querschnitt» card.
- Build up the structure via «Schicht hinzufügen» (add layer) and «Abschnitt hinzufügen» (add section) – for example an additional section for timber studs in an insulation layer.
- For each layer, enter the thickness (in mm) and the life cycle (amortisation period in years).
- For each section, enter the percentage value at the bottom of the matrix – the section's share of the component. The first section is automatically set to 100%; if you add more sections, you distribute the shares yourself (e.g. 80% insulation / 20% timber studs).
- Link each cell to a material – only then will the U-value and the life cycle assessment calculate correctly.
Expected Result
The percentage values of all sections add up to 100% and vyzn shows no warning on the component. You will then see the calculated component values as locked fields («Dieses Feld wird automatisch anhand des Bauteilaufbaus berechnet» – this field is calculated automatically based on the component build-up).
Common Mistakes
- Total above 100%: This is always invalid.
- Total below 100%: Only permitted for columns and beams.
- Ignoring the warning: If the total is off, vyzn shows a warning on the component – the build-up is still saved, but the results would be distorted because the percentage values scale the material shares in the life cycle assessment and are weighted into the U-value.
- Cells without a material: Link each cell to a material, otherwise the U-value and the life cycle assessment will not calculate correctly.
Update (version 1.8.5)
As of version 1.8.5, percentage warnings on eBKP-H sections are no longer shown when they aren't relevant – this reduces unnecessary warnings without changing the validation of component percentage values itself.
