Can I store project-specific references such as EPDs and compare multiple datasets per material?

Last updated July 2, 2026

Short Answer

Partially. In vyzn you can create your own reference materials and link them to your materials per attribute group; manufacturer-specific evidence such as EPD documents can be uploaded as files at catalogue level. However, there is currently no reference layer isolated per project, and the interface does not offer a direct side-by-side comparison of multiple datasets on the same material.

How It Works in vyzn

Creating and linking your own reference materials: You create your own reference materials via "Referenzmaterial erfassen" (create reference material). Using the "Mit einem Referenzmaterial verknüpfen" (link to a reference material) function, you connect them to your materials per attribute group (for example the "Ökobilanz" / life cycle assessment group). The life cycle assessment indicators following the logic of the KBOB 2022 data – such as UBP, greenhouse gas emissions and embodied energy – are then taken from the linked reference dataset. The affected fields on the material are locked and are updated automatically whenever the reference material changes. The link can be removed at any time – optionally keeping the values last applied.

Storing EPD documents: You can attach manufacturer-specific evidence such as EPD documents as files. Today, the upload does not happen directly in the "Produktdokumente" (product documents) tab of an individual product, but at catalogue level via "Dokumente hochladen" (upload documents). The assignment to the respective product is done through the file name in the format "LABEL_Produktschlüssel.TYP" (label_product key.type). The uploaded document then appears on the matching product in the "Produktdokumente" tab for viewing and downloading. There is no dedicated EPD format or EPD-specific evaluation – these are generic document attachments.

Keep the scope in mind: Reference materials and links live in your catalogue at tenant level. They are therefore available to all projects that use this catalogue – there is currently no reference layer truly isolated per project. In addition, exactly one reference material is active per attribute group; switching overwrites the previous values.

Practical Example

If you want to compare different EPDs for the same material, you best model the variants with duplicated materials: duplicate the material and link each copy to a different reference material. When duplicating, the existing reference material links are carried over.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I isolate references per project?

No. Reference materials and links live in the catalogue at tenant level and are available to all projects that use this catalogue.

Can I directly compare multiple reference datasets on the same material?

No. Exactly one reference material is active per attribute group at any time; switching overwrites the previous values.

Is there a dedicated EPD format or EPD evaluation?

No. Uploaded EPD documents are generic document attachments without a dedicated EPD format or EPD-specific evaluation.

What happens if I remove a link?

You can remove the link at any time – optionally keeping the values last applied.
