Can I create and edit my own building components and layers in vyzn?

Last updated July 2, 2026

Short Answer

Yes. You create new components in your own product catalogue and assemble their build-up freely from individual layers – including attributes such as thickness, density and service life. The system catalogue that ships with vyzn is read-only; duplicate an entry from it into one of your own catalogues and adapt the copy.

Why It Matters

The layer attributes are the basis of your calculations: layer thickness and thermal conductivity feed the U-value calculation, and your layers' values feed the life cycle assessment according to KBOB 2022.

How It Works in vyzn

  • You create new components via "Create product" or "Create component" – for walls, roofs, slabs, columns, beams, doors or windows, among others.
  • You assemble the component build-up freely from individual layers: layers can be added, reordered via drag & drop, edited and deleted.
  • For each layer you maintain the relevant attributes such as thickness or layer thickness, density and life cycle (service life).
  • The automatic U-value calculation (from layer thickness and thermal conductivity) saves you the manual calculation and can be switched on and off per component.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I edit an entry from the system catalogue?

The system catalogue that ships with vyzn (with the KBOB 2022 reference data) is read-only. Duplicate the entry via "Duplicate" into one of your own catalogues and adapt the copy.

Why are these functions disabled for me?

Creating and editing requires write permissions on your user account – with read-only access these functions are disabled.

Update (version 1.8.5)

As of version 1.8.5, layer attributes are correctly preserved when toggling a layer on and off, and products in the catalog no longer save automatically – so you deliberately review your changes before saving them.
