Short Answer
In vyzn, you work with variants per model, and each variant carries its own component and material assignments. The safe way to manage multiple variants is to duplicate instead of overwrite – that way all assignments are preserved and each variant can be evaluated independently.
When to Use This
Whenever you want to maintain several variants of a model in parallel – for example to change values and compare the variants side by side, or to bring in new geometry – without losing assignments from an existing variant.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Duplicate a variant: Choose "Create new variant", select a base variant as the source and enter a name. The new variant takes over all assignments from the source – catalog components, materials, attributes and app configurations. The "Duplicate" action in the variant menu does the same.
- Save changes as a new variant: When you change values in a variant, use "Save as new variant" when saving. The original remains untouched with all its assignments, and you can compare the variants side by side.
- Bring in new geometry: When new geometry is added, use "Re-integrate model" (quick or full) instead of deleting the variant.
Expected Result
All component and material assignments are preserved, each variant can be evaluated independently, and you can compare the variants side by side.
Common Mistakes
- Overwriting an existing variant instead of duplicating it or saving changes with "Save as new variant".
- Deleting the variant when new geometry arrives instead of using "Re-integrate model".
