What level of detail should my models have?

Last updated July 2, 2026

Short Answer

Less is more: simple models significantly speed up upload, processing and above all variant studies. Ideal is a lean model that still contains all relevant components – vyzn cannot add missing components, while unnecessary detail only slows things down.

Why It Matters

The leaner the model, the faster you can calculate and compare variants – which is where vyzn creates the most value. What matters is not the level of detail but the completeness of the relevant components.

How It Works in vyzn

Model the components you want to analyse (walls, slabs, roofs, windows, doors, etc.), leave out furniture and small parts, and keep the geometry simple. vyzn handles early, simple models just as well as detailed execution models – for fast variant studies, the simple model is your best choice.

Practical Example

For a competition study, a simple model with walls, slabs, roof, windows and doors is enough – you can calculate LCA and energy variants in minutes. The detailed execution model with all layers is only needed later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my model be too simple?

Only if relevant components are missing – vyzn cannot analyse what is not in the model.

Does a very detailed model slow down my work?

Yes, unnecessary detail slows down upload, processing and variant studies.
