Short Answer
vyzn calculates the embodied life cycle assessment based on the KBOB 2022 dataset. Instead of reporting all EN 15978 / SIA 2032 modules (A1–A5, B, C, D) individually, vyzn works with the three values defined by KBOB: GWP production, GWP replacement and GWP disposal.
Why It Matters
If you compare results from vyzn with a module-based breakdown according to EN 15978 or SIA 2032, this mapping helps you: you can see which life cycle stages are covered by the three KBOB values – and which are not part of the embodied life cycle assessment.
How It Works in vyzn
vyzn represents the life cycle stages through three values:
- GWP production – the production of the material; essentially corresponds to modules A1–A3.
- GWP replacement – the replacement during the use stage; corresponds to module B4. vyzn derives it computationally from the material's amortisation period and the building's service life (60 years according to REIDA, 50 years for DGNB/SGNI).
- GWP disposal – the end of life or deconstruction of the material (KBOB disposal value).
The same breakdown also exists for embodied energy and UBP; in addition, vyzn reports biogenic carbon. The values are amortised over the service life and related to the energy reference area (EBF), for example as GHG emissions per m² of energy reference area.
The explicit breakdown into production, replacement and disposal appears in the DGNB/SGNI report and in the REIDA CSV export; the standard view shows bundled totals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are transport and installation (A4/A5) included?
No. A4 and A5 are not reported as separate modules.
What about the operational stage (B6/B7)?
Operational energy is not part of the embodied life cycle assessment – it is handled by the separate energy calculation according to SIA 380/1.
Is module D taken into account?
No, module D is not included.
How are existing building components handled?
Existing components that are reused are assigned zero environmental impact.
Update (version 1.8.5)
As of version 1.8.5, layer values (THGE/PEne) for merged material layers are calculated correctly per layer.
