Why does my model appear "zoomed far out" when opening, and how do I handle coordination points?

Last updated July 2, 2026

Short Answer

If your model appears "zoomed far out" when opening, the cause is almost always the model itself: the IFC contains large coordinate offsets because survey or coordination points are located far from the origin. The "Home" function in the viewer toolbar immediately re-centres the camera on the model; the clean solution is an IFC export in which the model sits close to the origin.

Issue Description

When you open a model, the building looks tiny and far away, as if the viewer had "zoomed far out". The viewer places the geometry exactly where it is located in the IFC — with large coordinate offsets, this is correspondingly far from the origin.

Signs of This Issue

  • The building appears tiny and far away when the model is opened.
  • The model contains survey or coordination points located far from the origin — often visible as triangles.

Root Cause

The IFC contains large coordinate offsets: survey or coordination points are located far from the origin. The viewer places the geometry accordingly far from the origin — as a result, the building looks tiny and far away when opened.

Step-by-Step Solution

Immediate workaround in the viewer:

  1. Click the tool button (wrench icon) at the bottom right of the viewer to show the viewer toolbar.
  2. Click "Home" (the function for resetting the view). The camera is re-centred on the model.

Clean solution before upload:

  1. Export the IFC so that the model sits close to the origin: remove the large survey/coordination point offset in your CAD software, for example via the project or base coordinates.

Common Mistakes

  • Only resetting the view: for heavily offset models, "Home" helps only to a limited extent because the large offset in the IFC remains.

If the Problem Persists

Contact support — we can often correct the offset for you before the model is imported into vyzn. We are happy to take a look at your IFC.
