Short Answer
A slow project load usually has one of three causes: the 3D model being prepared for the viewer, a very large IFC model, or evaluations being recalculated after changes. The first load is always the slowest; after that, results are cached and subsequent loads are fast. Also check your internet connection.
Issue Description
Your project takes unusually long to open. When you open a newly uploaded model for the first time, you will see a loading bar or progress indicator while it is being prepared for the viewer.
Root Cause
A slow project load usually has one of three understandable causes:
- 3D model: When you open it for the first time, your IFC model is prepared for the viewer (Autodesk-based). While this translation is running, you will see a loading bar or progress indicator. The first load of a newly uploaded model takes the longest; if you upload the same file again afterwards, the existing translation is reused.
- Model size: Very large IFC models with many building elements take correspondingly longer to process and display.
- Evaluations: Life cycle assessment (KBOB 2022), costs (eBKP-H) and similar evaluations are recalculated after changes or new uploads and then cached. The first load after a change is therefore slower; subsequent loads are fast.
Step-by-Step Solution
- When opening a newly uploaded model for the first time, wait until the loading bar or progress indicator has finished – the translation only runs on the first load.
- For very large IFC models with many building elements, expect correspondingly longer processing and display times.
- Open evaluations such as the life cycle assessment (KBOB 2022) or costs (eBKP-H) once after a change – after that they are cached and subsequent loads are fast.
- Check your internet connection.
