The starting point
With ALL, SENN is developing a highly flexible office and laboratory building by Herzog & de Meuron with a radical sustainability ambition. Every material and component decision was to show its effect on the life cycle assessment, without measuring areas and quantities by hand.
The result
- Emissions cut in a targeted way: a lower-emission concrete mix was created as a new component in the vyzn software, and its effect on the life cycle assessment was visible immediately.
- The full life cycle assessment, automatically: greenhouse gas emissions and embodied energy, including the photovoltaic system with European modules.
- Standard-compliant and SNBS-recognised: the assessments can be used directly for certification.
- Material choices made early: emissions are re-evaluated with every design stage, while decisions are still open.
